I love good coffee, heck I can even enjoy bad coffee, bottom line is it is something important to me.
History
I started drinking bad coffee when i was in my teens, largely at the local 24 hour Denny's that we all hung out at. When I was 18 or 19 I started working in a coffee house at night, this was pre-Starbucks and it was a new fad in the area.
I worked several jobs to fill my time so I typically arrived at work exhausted and caffeine starved. I discovered the latte and espresso and learned to consume it in mass quantities.
After a few years of over-indulging I swore the stuff off and quit coffee hard for over a decade. I got by just saying I didn't like coffee. I drank tea, and diet coke to get by.
Re-birth
I started dipping my toes back into the coffee stream around 2003, I went for the more frou-frou mochas and frappacinos. When my mother-in-law was diagnoses with lung cancer in 2004 my life became more of a challenge and I found myself sneaking a cup here and there.
I fully gave in late in 2005, bought a coffee maker and renounced my non-java ways.
My choice
Coffee is a very subjective drink, what I like and consider good may be derided by another coffee lover. How strong, how weak, light roasted, dark roasted, proper grind and so on.
I spent a while grinding my own imported beans, I found a Costa Rican variety that I thoroughly enjoyed, just dark and rich enough, slightly bitter and a tad sweet.
Over Ice
More than hot coffee I really love iced coffee, this brings me to a national chain more often than I would prefer. Many people claim that anyone who loves coffee could never frequent this chain, but I disagree. My idea of the perfect cup is really several shots of espresso brewed over ice. The ice has an effect on the brew that just gives it a creamy, rich and bitter flavor I crave.
I know good coffee and bad coffee
My life has become increasingly complicated and frankly convenience outweighs perfection more times than not.
